Trump supports two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians to achieve Middle East peace

On Wednesday, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the US President said he wants a two-state solution to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

According to Reuters, Donald Trump said during a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister: "I like the two-state solution. That's the way I think works best... That's my feeling."

This is President Trump's most explicit statement on Middle East peace; his administration has previously said it supports a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, if both sides want it.

The Trump administration has promised to present a package of proposals to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and establish peace in the Middle East, but no specific time has been announced for its release.

In his latest statement in late August, the US president said that Israel would "pay the price" in this plan and the Palestinians would receive "very good things" in return.

Some American officials told the Associated Press in mid-August that he was forming a special team to introduce and advance his plan to achieve peace between the Palestinians and Israel.

The United States has been seeking to achieve peace in the Middle East for years, but President Trump's decision last December to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has angered Palestinians.

Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the United Nations, said in early August that Palestinian leaders are being kept away from reality because the Arabs are afraid to tell the truth, but Washington is telling them the truth.
