Civil activist Jila Karamzadeh Makondi's 6-year sentence confirmed

Branch 36 of the Tehran Provincial Court of Appeals upheld the six-year prison sentence of civil activist Jila Karamzadeh Makondi.

Ms. Makundi has been sentenced to five years in prison for the charge of "gathering and colluding with the intention of disrupting the country's security" and to one year in prison for the charge of "propaganda activity against the regime," for a total of six years in prison.

According to the Islamic Penal Code, the harshest punishment, five years in prison, is applicable to Ms. Makundi.

Zhila Karamzadeh Makondi, along with human rights activist Raheleh Rahemipour, were arrested by security forces in Tehran on November 11, 2019, and transferred to the IRGC Intelligence Detention Center, known as Ward 2A, of Evin Prison.

Both men were released from Evin Prison some time later, after posting bail, temporarily until the end of the trial.

Ms. Rahmipour is the sister of Hossein Rahmipour, a political activist who was reportedly executed around 1984.

In recent years, he has been searching for his nephew, Golro, who was born in Evin Prison, but apparently there is no information about his fate.
