Tehran University President: Prosecutor called to arrest "unveiled" students and the faculty president

Following the publication of a picture showing a number of female students taking off their headscarves while taking a photo in their graduation gowns in front of the entrance of Tehran University, the president of Tehran University reacted to the issue.

This photo was published in November by the news site "Ansaf News", which criticized these students and called it "discovery of the hijab".

The Jamaran news site reported on Tuesday, December 6, that Mohammad Moghimi, the president of Tehran University, said at a ceremony that "the prosecutor intended to arrest these students."

At the ceremony, which was held on the occasion of "Student Day," he said in response to a question about following up on the situation of imprisoned students: "We are investigating these. For example, I proved with evidence the photo of the student without a hijab in front of the university, that these were not our students, but pharmacy students. The prosecutor called and said that the dean of the faculty and the student should be arrested, but I said that we have our own investigation mechanism."

No news has been released about the "encounter" with the aforementioned students and the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Mohammad Moghimi replaced Mahmoud Nili Ahmadi as president of the University of Tehran on October 11 of this year, and during his introduction ceremony, he said that he would not allow the University of Tehran to be a "tribune against the system."

Mohammad Moghimi was appointed as the head of the University of Tehran after Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi, the former president of the university, sent a letter to Mohseni Ejei, the head of the Judiciary, on September 19, demanding the pardon or conditional release of imprisoned student Kasra Nouri.

Mr. Nili Ahmadabadi was dismissed from his position the next day by order of the Minister of Science, and Moghimi replaced him.

Nili Ahmadabadi stated that given that Kasra Nouri has served half of his prison term and the law allows his release based on these conditions, the University of Tehran has put a request for his release on the agenda, at the request of the imprisoned student's family.
