Reza Pahlavi: Easing sanctions against the Islamic Republic is immoral

In a new message, Prince Reza Pahlavi called for continued sanctions against the Islamic Republic, referring to the plot to kidnap Masih Alinejad.

The US Department of Justice announced in a statement on Wednesday that a four-member team affiliated with the Iranian intelligence service attempted to kidnap Masih Alinejad, an Iranian civil rights activist in the United States, from New York, but the plan was thwarted.

Reza Pahlavi wrote in a message on social media referring to this news: "The Islamic Republic has tried for 42 years to eliminate the democratic opposition through intimidation, blackmail, kidnapping and assassination. Fortunately, Masih Alinejad and other targets of the regime in the recent conspiracy are alive and safe, but many dissidents, activists and journalists continue to be systematically targeted."

He added: "Easing sanctions, despite the regime itself constantly reminding everyone of its evil nature, is not only unwise but also immoral. This is a conscious and deliberate collaboration with a criminal, illegitimate, and usurping regime in its endless war against the Iranian people and the principles of human rights and democracy."

Iran's last crown prince called the easing of sanctions against the Islamic Republic a "weak policy" that "encourages other rogue regimes to commit more terrorist acts."

The Joe Biden administration in the United States has recently pursued several rounds of indirect talks with Iran to partially lift sanctions in exchange for a promise of greater transparency about Tehran's nuclear program.
