Iran's Supreme Leader calls documents linking Ayatollah Khomeini to US 'fake'
In response to a document recently published by the BBC, Iran's Supreme Leader said that the documents were "forged" by the United States.
At a ceremony marking the 27th anniversary of the death of the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei interpreted the release of these documents as a sign of "hostility from the American and British governments."
He said: “On the occasion of the Imam’s anniversary, the British government’s propaganda apparatus is publishing a so-called document against the Imam; against the pure and immaculate Imam. Where did they get the document? From American documents. Does an American who shoots down a passenger plane hesitate to forge a document? Such is the hostility of the British.”
BBC Persian correspondent Kambiz Fattahi recently obtained a CIA document showing that Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who calls America the Great Satan, had made direct contact with American presidents at least twice and promised that American interests would not be jeopardized.
According to CIA documents, Ayatollah Khomeini contacted John F. Kennedy once in 1963 and Jimmy Carter, the then US presidents, in the days before the victory of the revolution.
Part of today's speech by the Leader of Iran:
- "Even if we back down, America will not stop its destructive role. Our hard-working brothers and activists reached results in the negotiations with the 5+1, the Islamic Republic fulfilled its commitments, America, which is deceitful, slanderous, and ill-advised, is holding back; it has held back so far. In any other area that you discuss and argue with America, if you back down, it will not back down."
- "The issue of information engineering and these new tools, all of which are for dominating the culture of a country; I am not saying that we should remove these tools from our lives; no. These can be useful, but the enemy's control over these tools must be removed. We cannot give them to the enemy just to have radio and television; the Internet is the same."
- "After the Imam's death, wherever we acted revolutionaryly, we advanced; wherever we neglected revolution and the jihadi movement, we fell behind. This is a fact. I myself was responsible for these years; if there is any fault in it, it is also due to this humble person."
- “It is a mistake to think that revolutionary means extremist. These dichotomies, which are souvenirs from foreigners and the words of Iran’s enemies, should not find a place in our political culture. They call a revolutionary an extremist, and a non-revolutionary a moderate; this is a foreign dichotomy.”
Iran's Leader Praises Government
The Leader of Iran said today, June 14th: “Anyone who moves in the direction of Islam, if they trust America, has made a big mistake. Most of the hostility from America and England is malicious.”
According to Ayatollah Khamenei, after the nuclear talks, the US is seeking to “swallow the Iranian economy through the digestive tract of the international economy.” He has emphasized in his announced policies that economic independence can be achieved through a resistance economy.
He praised the government's economic policies in the field of resistance economy in an unprecedented way, saying, "The government has started taking action and good things have been done. If it continues in this way, the people will certainly see its effects."
In his speech, the Iranian leader once again implicitly supported Mr. Rouhani's government and, in response to the slogans raised against the government during the ceremony, advised the protesters to "reconsider" and "not disrupt the unity of the government and the nation."
Ayatollah Khamenei addressed those who know the slogans and said: "You may like one government and not another, that's okay; electoral competitions have their place, disagreements have their place, even criticism has its place! But the government and the nation must all be together."
IRNA had previously reported that during Hassan Khomeini's speech, some people tried to disrupt the ceremony by waving their headscarves and making noise.
Last night, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also emphasized his unity with the Leader in his speech, saying that there is no distance between him and Ayatollah Khamenei.
