Queen Farah Pahlavi: Marriage of girls under 18 is terrible

Queen Farah Pahlavi described the regulations regarding women in Iran as "horrific" and said: "Before the revolution, women were given freedoms and opportunities that did not even exist in societies like America."

In a detailed conversation with Setareh Derakshesh, head of the Persian service of Voice of America, Queen Farah Pahlavi referred to the situation of women in Iran, including the removal of the law banning the marriage of girls under 18 years of age, which she considered horrific and unacceptable.

He also did not consider his selection as "regent of the throne" by Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi a personal honor, saying: "I did not think that His Majesty placed the crown on my head, but rather, I felt that this crown was placed on the heads of women and was a sign of the importance that His Majesty attached to women's rights."

 

In another part of the interview, Queen Farah Pahlavi mentioned the special importance of sports in her life and stated that she had done her best to avoid "bitterness" despite all the problems and hardships. She emphasized that she considered it her duty to remain "positive and healthy" so that those who brought these calamities upon her family and the people of Iran would not be happy.
