Coronavirus outbreak in the world, latest news and statistics

More than 107,000 people worldwide have been infected with the coronavirus. More than 3,600 people have died so far. About a hundred countries are struggling with the coronavirus, the worst-hit: China, South Korea, Iran and Italy. A German citizen has died from the coronavirus.

In the latest development in the coronavirus outbreak in Europe, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has placed Lombardy and 14 other provinces in the north of the country under lockdown, putting about 16 million people under quarantine. Movement restrictions have also been imposed within the containment zone.

The opening hours of stores and restaurants have been limited and people have been asked to stay home as much as possible.

Cinemas, theaters, museums, and other mass programs are closed until April 3rd.

Italy has the highest number of cases of the epidemic in Europe, with 5,900 cases and more than 230 deaths.

Virus growth in Germany and Austria

Around 950 cases have been identified in Germany so far. The first German citizen has also died from the coronavirus in Egypt.

The German government has banned all events and programs with more than a thousand people.

Restrictions have been announced in Switzerland to prevent the disease.

Austria has so far recorded more than 100 cases of coronavirus. It has suspended all flights to South Korea, Iran and northern Italy.

How many deaths in France?

So far (Sunday, March 8th), 11 people have died from coronavirus in France.

It is said that about 950 people are infected with this virus.

United Kingdom

In Britain, about 500 people have been infected with coronavirus and 6 people have died from the epidemic.

Iceland declared a state of emergency on March 6. So far, 43 cases of COVID-19 have been registered in Iceland. Most of them are said to have traveled to Italy or Austria for winter holidays.

So far, 7 cases of coronavirus have been identified in Hungary, and the government has announced measures.

The Russian government has so far identified 15 cases of the coronavirus and has announced restrictions on foreign travelers. People arriving in Russia from China, Switzerland, South Korea, Italy, Iran, France, Germany, Norway, Spain and North America must undergo two weeks of home quarantine.

China, the origin of the virus plague

Most experts believe the virus was transmitted to humans in December at a wildlife market in Wuhan, in Hubei province, China.

According to a statement from the Chinese Health Commission, the outbreak has passed the critical stage and its spread has now slowed.

Authorities reported 27 deaths in Hubei province on Sunday and 44 new cases of the disease, a significant decrease from previous days.

Experts believe that these statistics should be viewed with skepticism: There are different assessments about the extent of the spread of the epidemic in China and different statistics have been published.

According to official statistics, more than 80,000 people in China have been infected with the coronavirus, of which about 57,000 have been treated and recovered.

In Asia

South Korea in the East and Iran in West Asia are two other hotspots for the spread of the coronavirus.

In South Korea, the number of people infected with the virus has exceeded 7,000 and is still rising.

It is said that 44 people have died in South Korea so far.

In Hong Kong, about a hundred people have been infected with the disease and two people have died so far.

In Thailand, about 50 people have been infected and one person has died.

Thailand has banned entry to travelers from several countries: South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Italy, and Iran.

In Singapore, 130 people have been infected with the deadly virus. 70 have reportedly recovered and been discharged from hospital.

According to official figures, more than 1,050 people in Japan have been infected with the coronavirus and 12 have died. The government has announced restrictions on gatherings and movement.

In Japan, all schools are closed from the beginning of March to April 1st.

Israel has announced severe restrictions on entry into the country.

Saudi Arabia has suspended the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca and Medina. The country has imposed a quarantine on the Qatif region.

Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates have announced entry restrictions. Kuwait has suspended all flights to seven countries affected by the coronavirus.

Dubai has reported at least 45 cases of the disease.

More than 6,500 people have been infected with the coronavirus in Iran and at least 200 people have died.

Cases of coronavirus outbreaks have also been recorded in Pakistan, Iraq, Qatar, Oman, and Afghanistan.

Spread of the virus in North and South America

Cases of the virus spreading have been seen in Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Peru and the Dominican Republic.

It was announced on Sunday that a 64-year-old man in the Argentine capital died in hospital after contracting coronavirus.

The virus has spread to various parts of the United States. According to the New York Times, as of Saturday evening (March 7), about 350 people have been infected with the coronavirus and 17 have died.

76 cases of coronavirus have been identified in New York State, and for this reason a state of emergency has been declared.

At least 21 people have been infected with the coronavirus on the Grand Princess cruise ship, which has docked off the coast of San Francisco, California.

So far, 23 cases of the disease have been identified in Canada.

In Africa

According to official statistics published by the Egyptian government, only 15 people have been infected with the coronavirus in the country, but the real number is said to be much higher, including among foreign tourists.

17 people have been registered with the coronavirus in Algeria.

Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon and South Africa have recorded cases of coronavirus.

World Health Organization experts are hopeful that a vaccine for the coronavirus epidemic will be developed before it spreads rapidly in Africa.

More than 60 cases of coronavirus have been identified in Australia and two people have died.

Restrictions have been announced in Australia and flights to several countries have been suspended.
