Environmental activist Morad Tahbaz transferred from prison to a hotel in Tehran

The British Foreign Office announced that imprisoned environmental activist Morad Tahbaz has been transferred from Evin Prison to a hotel in Tehran.

According to the British Foreign Office, the country continues to consult with the Islamic Republic's officials at the highest levels to allow him to return home immediately.

Previously, there were reports about the possibility of Mr. Tahbaz being released along with Nazanin Zaghari and Anousheh Ashouri, but according to the Guardian newspaper, the British government transferred the monitoring of his situation to the United States, and he was returned to Evin Prison after 48 hours of leave.

Morad Tahbaz, 66, is one of the prisoners in the environmental activists case. He holds triple British, Iranian, and American citizenship and has been in prison for more than four years.

Based on a court ruling issued in November 2019, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of "collaborating with the United States."
