15 people poisoned in Hoveizeh due to urban water contamination

Continuing the water crisis in southern Iranian cities, a health official in Ahvaz reported that 15 people in Hoveizeh were poisoned after drinking contaminated water.

On Sunday, July 14, IRNA news agency quoted Shukrolah Salmanzadeh, deputy director of health at Ahvaz Jundishapur University, as saying that these people were poisoned due to contamination in the water network and were transferred to medical centers.

Meanwhile, the governor of Hoveyzeh told Tasnim News Agency that despite the summer heat and water crisis, the possibility of this happening again is not far-fetched or unlikely.

In another piece of news, the rural water and sewage manager of Hoveyzeh said: "In the past 10 days, the Karkheh River in Hoveyzeh has dried up, endangering the water supply to five thousand villagers."

Hoveyzeh County is located in Khuzestan Province, west of Ahvaz, and has a population of about 35,000.

In previous weeks, it was also reported that about 350 people were hospitalized due to contaminated drinking water in Ramhormoz, another city in Khuzestan Province.

Local authorities in Yazd also reported that the city's drinking water had become more saline. The severe salinity of water in Khorramshahr and Abadan and the water cuts in these cities also led to widespread street protests in these cities.

The water crisis in Iran has intensified following severe droughts in recent years, excessive use of groundwater resources, and mismanagement of water resources.
