Iranian border guard official urges Afghan refugees to "stay in their own country until their problems are resolved"

The deputy commander of the Border Guard of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Police Force says that "an average of 2,000" Afghan migrants "apply to the borders to enter Iran every day," but "most are returned to their own country."

According to ISNA news agency, Sardar Jalal Setareh said that Afghan refugees are "treated with the utmost respect and dignity," but called on the Afghan people "not to go to the borders and to remain in their own country until their problems are resolved."

With the Taliban taking control of Afghanistan, a significant number of Afghans have fled the country in recent days. Some countries have announced their willingness to accept a certain number of Afghan refugees.

In contrast, Turkey recently announced that it would increase security measures on its borders with Iran and deploy more soldiers to these areas, due to concerns about a possible influx of Afghan refugees fleeing Taliban fighters.
