Survey results: One in two young Iranians under 30 wants to emigrate

According to a survey by an institute inside Iran, the results of which were published on Wednesday, December 14, the desire to emigrate in Iran is about twice the global average and slightly higher than the regional average.
The survey also stated: "Nearly one in two young people under 30 would like to emigrate."
According to a survey conducted by an organization called "Q" within Iran among a statistical population of 1,300 people over the age of 18 living in the country, one-third of respondents (33 percent) said they would be willing to emigrate if the conditions were met.
This is despite the fact that, according to the institute, the willingness to migrate in Iran in 2016 was below 30 percent, and international research shows that the average willingness to migrate in the world is 15 percent, in West Asia 24 percent, and in Southeast Asia only 7 percent.
Another finding of this survey is that the desire to migrate among residents of Tehran, provincial centers, people with university education, singles, and young people (18 to 30 years old) is significantly higher than the national average.
Economic factors were declared the most important motivation for people to migrate, and 80% of respondents cited achieving a better economic situation or escaping a bad economic situation as their main motivation for migrating.
Radio Farda is unable to independently verify this survey and its results, and other surveys may show these results more or less, but the "Iranian Migration Yearbook 1400," published by the Iranian Migration Observatory under the supervision of the Sharif University of Technology Policy Research Institute in the first week of August this year, shows that the number of students leaving the country has tripled from 19,000 in 2003 to about 56,000 in 2018.
These statistics are being announced at a time when, in the past two or three years, due to economic, political, and social pressures, the tendency to migrate among different segments of Iranian society has increased significantly, and accurate statistics on illegal migration are not available.
The Iranian Migration Yearbook report states that based on the number of Iranians in asylum-seeking status in 2020, Iran ranked 14th among 195 countries.
The report also states that in 2019, about 42,000 immigrants with Iranian citizenship entered Turkey, while this number was about 15,500 in 2016.
