Thousands of tenants "without housing" in Tehran as a result of the coronavirus outbreak

Abolfazl Parpanchi, head of the Tehran Provincial Relief Committee, announced that there are 11,500 tenants in Tehran who have been left without housing as a result of the economic consequences of the coronavirus.

Mr. Parpanchi told ILNA news agency on Wednesday, May 3, that the biggest problem for this organization is the 11,500 tenants in Tehran, for whom it is difficult to provide housing in the metropolis.

He also said that some of the committee's clients have lost their jobs due to the spread of the coronavirus, and that assistance of 150,000 to 500,000 tomans has been provided for them.

According to the head of the Tehran Relief Committee, 74,500 households are currently covered by this committee, while in recent months of the coronavirus outbreak, about 13,000 needy households have expressed their need for assistance.

This is while some time ago, after the First Vice President of Iran announced the establishment of a "Council for Cooperation between the Government, Public Institutions, and Popular Institutions" to support those affected by the coronavirus, the Commander of the Revolutionary Guards also announced the establishment of a special headquarters for this purpose.

The IRGC commander announced that this camp was formed with the presence of the Mostazafan Foundation, the Relief Committee, the Executive Headquarters, Astan Quds Razavi, and the Basij, all of which are institutions under the supervision of the Leader of the Islamic Republic, and that the Ministry of Industry also supports this camp.

In late April, the website of the office of the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran also launched a special section for receiving financial assistance "for those affected by Corona."

The release of this news comes at a time when in recent weeks there has been widespread discussion about allocating funds to combat the coronavirus from billions of dollars in resources that are at the disposal of institutions under the supervision of the Leader.

On April 1, US State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus, referring to Zarif's request to lift sanctions during the coronavirus crisis, said that the Iranian government could use "billions of dollars" in funds affiliated with the Islamic Republic's leader to combat the coronavirus.
