The US State Department called for the immediate release of Sepideh Qolyan.

The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Human Rights and Democracy called for the immediate release of Sepideh Gholian, a human rights defender imprisoned in Iran.

The office wrote in a message on Twitter on Friday, March 10: "Human rights defender Sepideh Gholian is seriously ill in the "notorious" Evin prison."

The tweet continued: Sepideh (Gholian) has been imprisoned for peaceful dissent and has been targeted by Iranian authorities because she has spoken out about widespread harassment in Iranian prisons.

Sepideh Qolyan, who was sentenced to five years in prison for participating in the Haft Tappeh workers' protests, is currently being held in Evin Prison.

Previously, while in Bushehr Prison, he revealed in a report the widespread violation of the rights of female prisoners and their use for sexual exploitation as "temporary concubines" for "male prisoners in the Mali prison with the coordination of the prison manager."

Ms. Gholian recently wrote a letter from Evin Prison, emphasizing that "word of mouth should be spread about these women's names," calling for attention to imprisoned women, including Maryam Hajihosseini, Niloufar Bayani, Nahid Taghavi, Zohreh Sarv, Shohreh (Leila) Gholikhani, Gelareh Abbasi, Zahra Zehtabchi, and Sepideh Kashani.
