Labor activist Parvin Mohammadi sentenced to prison again in absentia

Labor activist Parvin Mohammadi was sentenced in absentia to another year in prison in a new case by the Iranian judiciary.
The Telegram channel "Free Union of Iranian Workers" announced the news and wrote that Ms. Mohammadi was also banned from leaving the country in the ruling.
Parvin Mohammadi is a well-known labor activist who has been arrested and imprisoned many times in recent years.
Ms. Mohammadi's lawyer says that the new case was ruled in absentia, even though her client has an address and details. According to him, the case dates back to 2017, and Parvin Mohammadi was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of "propaganda against the regime" for several speeches she gave to retired workers and an interview about the fire at Plasco.
In its statement, the Free Union of Iranian Workers condemned the issuance of a prison sentence in absentia to Parvin Mohammadi and called for the immediate annulment of this sentence.
The United States has repeatedly condemned Iran's security crackdown on workers. The US State Department said in a message that the Islamic Republic's regime could have paid the salaries of workers in Iran with the money it spent in Syria.
