Nowruz Messages from U.S. President and Secretary of State

The President and Secretary of State of the United States have released Nowruz messages on the occasion of the arrival of Nowruz and the New Year.

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, in his Nowruz message published on the White House website, has expressed solidarity with Iranians while offering congratulations on the occasion of the arrival of the New Year and Nowruz.

He states that Iranians “this year, as in every other year over the past four decades, are experiencing the arrival of spring under the burden of their own corrupt and ruthless government.”

Mr. Trump further stated in another section of his Nowruz message that the people of Iran desire the restoration of their “glorious history, rich culture, and rightful place in the international arena”: “They deserve to have a responsive government that honors their dignity and respect.”

The U.S. President’s Nowruz message continues by stating that the Iranian government does not uphold these principles: “As a result, the daily lives of the Iranian people unfortunately run counter to the true meaning of Nowruz, which in Persian means ‘new day’ and encompasses hope for a day when goodness triumphs over evil, joy over sorrow, and victory prevails.”

Donald Trump further expressed solidarity with the Iranian people, stating that the United States will continue to condemn Iran’s “dictatorial government.”

At the end of his Nowruz message, Mr. Trump states that he “prays for the rebirth of freedom in Iran”: “In the end, freedom and justice will triumph over oppression.”

Mike Pompeo, the U.S. Secretary of State, has also released a Nowruz message.

Mr. Pompeo’s Twitter account has also published a short video in which the Secretary of State reads his Nowruz message.

Mike Pompeo in his Nowruz message states “On behalf of the American people, I extend my warmest wishes to all those celebrating Nowruz, whether in the United States, Iran, or around the world.”

The U.S. Secretary of State expressed hope that the New Year would be “full of renewal, health, and success.”

He then says in Farsi “Nowruz Mubarak.”
