Russian “spy ring” discovered in Ukrainian military headquarters

Kiev officials say they have uncovered and thwarted a Moscow “spy ring” that was apparently planning to attack a passenger plane.

Ukrainian security officials say they have uncovered and neutralized a Russian “spy ring.” According to Oleksiy Arestovich, an adviser to the Ukrainian president, one of the spies was in the Ukrainian army’s command headquarters.

He did not elaborate on the number of members of the ring, but said of one of their goals: "These people were planning to shoot down a passenger plane over Russia or Belarus and hold Ukraine responsible for it."

It has been said that Ukrainian anti-aircraft missiles were to be used for this operation.

Attacks on Mariupol Steel Plant Continue

Russian military attacks on the besieged Mariupol steel plant continue after a group of civilians left the site.

According to the commander of the Ukrainian National Guard, Denis Shchelga, as soon as the evacuation of civilians from Azovstal was completed, Russian attacks on the plant resumed. According to the military official, at least one more evacuation operation is needed to get everyone who took refuge in the plant out.

The United Nations announced on Sunday, May 1, that the evacuation of civilians from the Mariupol steel plant was underway. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also confirmed the departure of 100 civilians from the plant.
