A teacher union activist: Government measures to provide smart education to students have failed; reopening schools will lead to disaster

A member of the Teachers' Union says that the Islamic Republic has so far been unsuccessful in terms of smart education and the education it has started on national media for students due to the coronavirus outbreak and school closures.

In an exclusive interview with Voice of America, Ali Akbar Baghani, referring to the lack of health facilities and substandard educational tools in Iranian schools, says that if the Islamic Republic wants to reopen schools that have been closed due to the spread of the coronavirus in provinces such as Tehran, Markazi, Khorasan Razavi, and Fars under the current conditions, a disaster is on the way, because Iranian schools do not have any health facilities and this government neither can nor wants to control schools and classrooms from a health perspective.

This member of the Teachers' Association said regarding smart education and the lessons being taught on Iran's national media: "This is instrumental education, and the government, which previously failed to even provide proper desks and chairs for teachers and students, has now also failed in instrumental education and training because it cannot lead the smart system."

Ali Akbar Baghani considered the Islamic Republic's smart education to students more like a joke than a truth, and said: "A government like the Iranian government cannot in any way educate at least 13 million students in a smart way without providing teachers with facilities such as smartphones or high-speed internet."

The spread of the coronavirus in Iran is increasing daily, and Iranian authorities have so far failed to take acceptable measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Based on available information, the Islamic Republic authorities have stated that the total number of people infected with the coronavirus as of Monday, April 8, 2020, is 60,500, and officially say that 3,739 people have lost their lives due to the virus to date.

However, these statistics are being reported by the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while a World Health Organization official has said that the statistics announced by Iranian authorities regarding people infected with the coronavirus are only one-fifth of the actual number of infected people.
