An official from the Anti-Drug Headquarters: The pattern of consumption of Iranian children and adolescents is "marijuana and hashish"

The Director General of Treatment and Social Support of the Anti-Drug Headquarters, referring to the statistics of children involved in drug abuse in Iran, said that unlike adults, the "number one pattern" of drug use among Iranian children and adolescents is "marijuana and hashish."

According to the Asr Iran news website, Reza Tuyserkan Manesh described addiction treatment for children and adolescents on Wednesday, January 2, as based on "family therapy, cognitive therapy, behavioral therapy, and more complex issues," and said that the addiction of children and adolescents in Iran "mainly revolves around substances such as hashish and marijuana."

Referring to the treatment of addiction in children and adolescents in Kartonkhab, he added that addiction treatment in children and adolescents is different from addiction treatment in adults, and for this reason, a program to collect these children and keep them in special centers such as adult addiction treatment centers has not been organized to date.

Mr. Tuyserkanmanesh, without mentioning the exact number of children and adolescents involved in addiction, said: "It is predicted that a thousand children are involved in drug abuse."

Previously, in September of this year, the Student News Agency pointed out in a report on the increase in the tendency of teenagers and young people to use drugs in recent years, stating that the main reason for this was the "availability" of drugs in various neighborhoods and their cheapness compared to healthy entertainment. It wrote that, according to the latest official statistics, the addiction rate among students, a significant portion of whom are in the teenage age group, is "more than 2 percent of the total number of addicts and drug users in the country."

According to the report, the number of students involved in addiction in nine provinces of Iran is higher than the national rate, and the prevalence rate of drug use among high school and art school students in the provinces of Tehran, South Khorasan, Fars, Semnan, Alborz, Khuzestan, Kerman, Khorasan Razavi, and Kermanshah is higher than the national average. The report adds that the addiction rate among Tehrani students is in first place.
