Christians’ Prayer for Iran’s Freedom: In the Ashes of Oppression, the Light of Hope Endures

Iran, a land with ancient history and culture, has witnessed in recent decades catastrophes and crimes that break the heart of every human being. Since the beginning of the Islamic Revolution in 1357, Christians in Iran have faced severe suppression and restrictions; many followers of Christianity were buried alive, and their human rights were ignored. These suppressions were not limited to Christians alone; major social and human catastrophes also form another part of Iran’s contemporary history.
From the Rex Cinema fire in Abadan that resulted in the deaths of hundreds, to the collapse of the Plasco Building that reminded us of the sacrifice and deaths of those who stood against negligence and injustice, and countless other catastrophes that break every human heart—and recounting them would bring nothing but pain, suffering, and sorrow, because they are innumerable.
Nevertheless, Iranian Christians are neither waiting for full support from the West nor the East; we rely only on God. In circumstances where many European and global allies are only pursuing their own interests, our faith is in divine promises; we know that true justice is beyond the hands of humans, and only divine miracles can end oppression.
Followers of Iranian Christianity, in unity and through prayer and fasting, ask God to break the backbone of evil and allow the Iranian nation, after decades of suffering and oppression, to experience the taste of freedom, justice, and true peace. As stated in the Gospel of John, Chapter 10, Verse 10: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and to the full.”
These words of Jesus Christ demonstrate the apex of His love and the centrality of life in His teachings; He places the light of hope in the heart of darkness and shows humanity the path to eternal life.
Throughout Iran’s contemporary history, Christians have stood against oppression with faith and patience. They have not pursued justice and freedom with weapons and force, but with the power of prayer and fasting. This spiritual unity carries a clear message: even in the heart of darkness and human anger, God’s light never goes out, and miracles can change the course of history.
Today, when Iranian Christians stand together and pray for their nation and land, their message is clear: “We believe that divine justice and love are above all earthly power. We ask God to end oppression, free generations of Iranians, and build a society in which justice, peace, and freedom are the foundations of life.”
Iran, with all its pain and despair, remains a land of prayer and hope. Followers of Christianity believe that even in the ashes of oppression, God’s light can shine, and a generation of Iranians, after decades of suffering and injustice, can experience a life that is free and full of hope. This prayer and faith are signs of true resistance and life. As the Psalmist says in Chapter 23, Verse 4: “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Yes! God’s light never goes out, even when everything seems dark.
