Major “American Hope” Gathering at University of Utah, a Faith Response to Charlie Kirk’s Murder

Following the tragic murder of Christian activist Charlie Kirk, churches and faith leaders are organizing an “American Hope” gathering in Utah to bring the light of faith and Christ’s love to a wounded community.
University of Utah Valley, which was recently the site of the tragedy of Charlie Kirk’s murder, is now preparing itself to host one of the year’s largest evangelistic gatherings. The event, titled “American Hope,” will take place on November 16th and aims to restore hope and peace to a community wounded by violence and grief.
Leadership of this event will be handled by Greg Laurie, an acclaimed pastor, author, and leader of the Christian organization “Harvest.” He announced that initial planning for such a gathering in Utah was scheduled through 2027, but Charlie Kirk’s murder prompted the decision to be expedited.
Laurie stated in this regard: “When this incident occurred, we contacted the churches in Utah and told them that we stand with you. Their response was simple and painful: come, our people are wounded and they need hope.”
The tragic incident of September 10th, when Charlie Kirk was shot during the “Turning Point America” event, shook many Christian communities across the country. Now, just two months later, the same university is set to become a place of faith declaration and spiritual renewal.
At the “American Hope” event, more than 60 churches from across Utah will simultaneously hold live gatherings to spread the message of salvation and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. More than ten thousand people are expected to attend or follow the event online.
Greg Laurie has emphasized that this gathering has no political character, but rather its primary goal is to refocus people’s attention on the life-giving message of the Gospel. He said: “True hope is found only in Jesus Christ. At a time when our nation is wounded from within, we must return to the source of peace and truth.”
Pastor Lucas Miles, a prominent leader in faith ministry in America, said in a message to the organizers of this event: “Greg Laurie’s courage in delivering the Gospel message to people who are grieving and in shock is an example of faith alive in action. It is exactly what our nation needs today.”
The Charlie Kirk murder case remains under investigation, and the primary suspect, a 22-year-old named Tyler James Robinson, faces charges of first-degree murder. Police have attributed his probable motive to disagreement over Kirk’s conservative views on social issues.
Nevertheless, faith leaders believe that the Christian community’s response should not be hatred or revenge, but love, forgiveness, and hope should be their answer to darkness and violence.
The “American Hope” event is not only a memorial for Charlie Kirk, but a message to all Americans that faith can bring new life even from the depths of grief. At a time when the nation grapples with division and despair, this gathering seeks to remind us that Christ’s light still shines, a light that darkness will never overcome.
