Kianoosh Cheraghi Begins Hunger Strike After Transfer to Dareshahr Prison
“Kianoosh Cheraghi” began a hunger strike following his transfer from Ilam Prison to Dareshahr Prison.
Kianoosh Cheraghi, 44 years old, is a resident of Dehloran and a former employee of the Dehloran Social Security Administration. He was arrested by security forces in Dehloran in October 2023. His case was tried by the Second Branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Ilam, based in Dehloran, under the presiding judge “Seyyed Reza Salaheddini,” on the charge of “propagandistic activities against the Islamic Republic system,” and he was sentenced to one year in prison, with previous detention time counted toward the sentence.
Additionally, on November 6, 2023, Branch 101 of the Criminal Court of Dehloran, under the presiding judge “Hossein Panahi,” convicted him on the charge of “spreading false information intended to disturb public opinion through computer systems” and sentenced him to two years in prison and writing 200 pages about 10 individuals killed in the Iran-Iraq War with confirmation from the Ilam Province Sacred Defense Foundation.
Kianoosh Cheraghi was arrested on April 25, 2024, after being summoned to the Dehloran Sentence Enforcement Branch and was transferred to Ilam Prison to serve his sentence, after which he was released on bail. According to published reports, the Sixth Branch of the Ilam Court of Appeals issued an order on February 15, 2024, to remove the electronic tag imposed on Mr. Cheraghi, but this political prisoner described it as illegal and unjust.
Security forces also raided his home and arrested him. During his transfer to Ilam Prison, he was beaten, as a result of which he sustained injuries to his jaw and knee, and one of his teeth was broken. He protested the removal of the electronic tag order by going on a hunger strike in prison.
Despite serious injuries, he was denied medical care in prison, and even his request for medical examination received no response. Mr. Cheraghi, who had been on both wet and dry hunger strike, was placed under medical supervision, but after 9 days, due to his poor physical condition, he was transferred to a hospital. Following reassurances from prison officials, he ended his hunger strike while in the hospital.
Political prisoner Kianoosh Cheraghi has now been transferred from Ilam Prison to Dareshahr Prison, and in protest of this transfer, he has once again begun a hunger strike.
