Following heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday morning, April 15th, that its embassy in Tehran would be temporarily closed.
Due to the possibility of military conflict between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Israel, several European countries sought to protect their citizens. France’s Foreign Ministry on Friday, April 14th, advised its citizens to refrain from traveling to Iran, Lebanon, Israel, and Palestinian territories. The ministry wrote on social media platform X: “Family members of diplomats stationed in Iran will return to France, and French government employees are prohibited from carrying out any missions in Iran, Lebanon, Israel, and Palestinian territories.”
The Dutch Ministry, in issuing a statement while referring to increased tensions between Iran and Israel, said: “The Netherlands, as a precautionary measure, will close its embassy in Tehran on Sunday, April 16th, and will make a decision regarding the reopening of the embassy in the coming days.”
Germany also on Friday, April 14th, issued a statement urging its citizens to leave Iran. The German government announced that there is a risk of sudden escalation of existing tensions between the Islamic Republic and Israel, and Germans may face the danger of arbitrary detention in the country.
