Two 12-Year-Old Children Commit Suicide in Tehran and Yasouj

Two 12-year-old student children in Tehran and Yasouj took their own lives due to family problems and hopelessness about life.

Reports published on social media indicate the suicide of two 12-year-old girl and boy students in Tehran and Yasouj. On Wednesday, December 20, the father of a 12-year-old student in Tehran contacted police to report his son’s suicide.

Officers from the 136th police station in Tehran immediately arrived at the scene following the call. “Amir Hossein Alimirdan,” a special prosecutor for murder in branch 10 of the criminal affairs prosecutor’s office, announced after visiting the scene that the student ended his life by hanging himself in his closet due to his parents’ divorce.

By order of the special murder prosecutor, the 12-year-old boy’s body was transferred to the coroner for further investigation. No information about the student’s identity was provided in the published reports.

Additionally, 12-year-old “Yasna” from Yasouj, a sixth-grade elementary student, ended her life. “Fateme Sheikholizadeh,” a social reporter, announced Yasna’s suicide by posting on the X platform. Yasna ended her life after writing a will addressed to her paternal aunt. Yasna’s father suffered spinal cord injury due to electrical shock and her mother had divorced. Yasna lived with her younger sister at her grandfather’s house.

In the mentioned letter, she wrote that she was tired of life and would miss everyone.

Suicide in Iran has increased, particularly in recent months. In the past, suicide occurred in older age groups due to economic or family problems, but now we are witnessing an increase in child suicides in Iran, where children have lost hope in life and have no motivation to continue living.
