Annual Joint Meeting of Christian Organizations on Religious Freedom and Belief Held

The annual joint report of Christian organizations for religious freedom and belief will be held in February in the United Kingdom.

Christian organizations “Open Doors,” “Article 18,” “CSW” and “World Christian Solidarity” publish reports annually regarding Christians facing persecution in countries around the world.

Christian organization “Open Doors” published a report in 2021 regarding Christians facing persecution in 50 countries worldwide, in which the Islamic Republic of Iran was identified as the ninth most anti-Christian country in the world. In the report published by “Open Doors,” Afghanistan topped the list, North Korea and Somalia ranked second and third respectively.

In 2022, through reports published by this organization, Iran ranked eighth on the list. According to statements from Open Doors, there was no significant change in the situation of Christians in Iran compared to the previous year, but there is concern that with Ebrahim Raisi taking office as president and changes in certain provisions of Islamic penal law, the situation of Christians could worsen.

The Iranian Islamic Republic government attributes the spread of Christianity and the growth of house churches in Iran to Western countries, which it claims are seeking to weaken the foundations of the Islamic Republic and its collapse. For this reason, house churches, which are used for worship by Muslims who have converted from Islam to Christianity, have been attacked by the regime’s security forces, and their members and leaders have been arrested on charges of “acting against national security” and subjected to torture, threats, lengthy imprisonment, exile, deprivation of civil rights, and other punishments.

In the current year (2024), Article 18 organization announced a meeting of global Christian organizations to support religious freedom and belief. According to reports published by this organization, a meeting will be held in the British Parliament hosted by “Fiona Bruce” on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, with the presence of Christian organizations “Open Doors,” “CSW” and “World Christian Solidarity” regarding religious freedom and belief.

Article 18 organization requested those residing in Britain to use a link provided in their Instagram profile bio to invite their parliamentary representative to attend this meeting. This year’s report focuses on victims whose names and faces remain unknown. By inviting their representatives to participate in this meeting, people will be the voice of Christians and will become aware of the situation of Christians in Iran. These reports will greatly help in informing about the situation of imprisoned Christians throughout the world, and with the participation of representatives in the aforementioned meeting, their voices will reach across the globe.
