Terrifying Sound Heard in Khorramabad Followed by Severe Tremors

At 10 PM last night, a terrifying sound was heard in Khorramabad, followed by severe tremors felt in parts of the province.

Last Monday night, corresponding to September 25, 1402, at 10 PM, an extremely terrifying sound was heard in Khorramabad, after which severe tremors were felt in some parts of the city, causing panic among residents.

In the initial hours of this incident, some official media outlets referred to the event as an earthquake, and Iran’s state broadcaster covered the news under the headline “Khorramabad Shook.” Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, also emphasized that Khorramabad residents initially believed an earthquake had caused the sounds and tremors. However, after it became clear that no earthquake was registered by Tehran University’s Geophysics Center, the possibility of an explosion became more prominent in people’s minds.

Several hours after the incident, national authorities denied the occurrence of an earthquake or explosion, announcing that the source of this terrifying sound remains unclear. Additionally, Mahdi Pazoki, the Director General of Crisis Management at Lorestan Province’s Governor’s Office, while referring to the terrifying sound heard, stated: “The matter is being investigated by relief agencies and crisis management agencies in the province, and as soon as its source is determined, it will be reported to the public.”

Ehsan Yavari, the Deputy for Political and Security Affairs of Lorestan Province, also denied the possibility of an explosion or earthquake in Lorestan Province and announced the formation of a crisis management headquarters meeting to review possibilities.

Last Monday, a terrifying explosion was also heard in the city of Gorgan, after which fragments of explosives fell in some areas, causing damage to homes, cars, and shops. Following the incident, at least 2 people were injured. Reza Talebizadeh, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, attributed it to the crash of a system during a research test process of offensive and drone systems in a desert area. However, officials made contradictory statements regarding the Gorgan incident, and the cause of the explosion remains unclear.

Mahdi Pazoki also added regarding the terrifying sound and ground tremor in Khorramabad: “No concerning issues have been reported so far, and forces of the crisis management headquarters and operational forces are monitoring the situation.”

However, the above issue has raised concerns and anxiety among residents, as they believe these explosions were carried out by the system itself, because officials and media outlets affiliated with the system have avoided clear explanations and have conveyed contradictory information to the public.
