Three Political Prisoners Beaten and Shackled to Bar for One Day

Three political prisoners in Tehran’s main prison were beaten by authorities, with one of them shackled to a bar for an entire day.

On Thursday, June 24th, Meysam Dehbanazadeh, Reza Norouzi, and Majid Roshannzhad, three political prisoners held in Ward 5 of Tehran’s main prison, were beaten by prison authorities. The beating occurred following discontent over the lack of proper crime classification in Ward 5 and after altercations broke out among inmates in that section.

According to Erfan Karamvissi, the defense lawyer for these three prisoners, Dehbanazadeh, Norouzi, and Roshannzhad were beaten with batons by six prison guard officers. During this beating, Meysam Dehbanazadeh suffered bleeding from blows to the head, and despite his injuries, the prison medical staff only provided him with one Ibuprofen tablet instead of properly dressing his head wound.

Their defense lawyer further stated: “After this incident, Meysam Dehbanazadeh was transferred to Ward 3 of the prison and remained shackled to a bar with handcuffs until noon on Friday, June 25th.”
