Courageous Woman Defends Street Vendors Against Municipal Authority Officers

A courageous woman stood in defense of the rights of street vendors in the city of Gorgan against municipal authority officers.

A video has been circulated on social media showing an attack by municipal authority officers along with police officers on street vendors in the city of Gorgan.

With little time left before the beginning of the new year and Nowruz, many street vendors have set up their stalls on the streets hoping to earn a living so they can provide halal bread for their families. However, they have constantly faced oppression from municipal and police officers and have not been allowed to conduct their business.

The person who recorded this incident said: “Yesterday afternoon, municipal officers along with police officers attacked street vendors in Gorgan and prevented them from working. A woman who was a passerby decided to stop where she could have simply passed by indifferently, and she cried out the shared pain of the people. She stood alone in front of the officers and shouted to prevent them from taking the street vendors’ goods. Moreover, every item that the officers had placed in their vehicle was removed by this woman. In this video, she addresses the officers saying: they eat halal bread, they are not thieves or embezzlers. She also threatened the officers and shouted that they had no right to touch the street vendors’ belongings. She also addressed the people saying that these (Islamic Republic) want to corrupt your women, make your youth into thieves. With her stand, other people also united with her and did not allow the officers to lay hands on the street vendors’ stalls.”

The Islamic Republic government has not only plundered Iran over the past 44 years through its agents and committed massive robberies and embezzlements, but it is also an accomplice to thieves and wants to push its people toward theft and embezzlement. For this reason, they prevent people from earning an honest living and do not allow them to make a livelihood. People who have no hesitation about working, in whatever form, and resort even to street vending to earn an honest living.

The behavior and conduct of this woman and those like her are inspiring visions of a bright and victorious future for Iran and its people. Iranian women no longer fear standing against security forces; instead, they defend their rights and freedoms, and even those of men, with chests shielded by justice. Unity is the key to the victory of popular revolution.
