Israeli Military Analyst: Brigadier General Fereydoun Mohammadi is the Implementer of Iran’s Air Defense Systems Deployment in Syria and Lebanon

An Israeli military analyst who runs an “independent” intelligence website called IntelliTimes claimed on Monday, July 4, that Brigadier General Fereydoun Mohammadi Seghaye, a senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps official, is responsible for deploying Iran’s air defense systems in Syria and Lebanon.

According to Ronen Solomon, director of IntelliTimes, Brigadier General Seghaye, deputy coordinator of the IRGC Aerospace Force, is in charge of the mission to deploy Iran’s air defense systems in Syria and Lebanon.

Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post reported on Monday, citing Mr. Solomon, that he identified the correct name of this Iranian senior military official through contact with “American intelligence sources.”

Saudi-affiliated media outlets first mentioned Brigadier General Seghaye’s name on June 30, hours after an airstrike attributed to Israel targeted the Hamidiyeh district in the port city of Tartus, Syria.

Arabic-language regional media reported on July 1 that a freshly arrived military shipment from Iran had been targeted by an airstrike attributed to Israel.

Syrian state media had reported that the strike destroyed several poultry farms and wounded two civilians, including a woman.

Israel has not claimed responsibility for the Tartus strike, but has consistently said it will confront any action aimed at establishing Iran’s military presence in Syria.

Although Israeli officials have not publicly named Brigadier General Seghaye as the person responsible for deploying Iranian air defenses in Syria, publicizing the names of Iranian officials could indicate that he has become a target for Israel.

Brigadier General Seghaye is the deputy to Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force.

Iran and Syria are two strategic allied countries with multiple military treaties on mutual defense. These agreements have been strengthened through visits by senior political and military officials to each other’s capitals in recent years.
