88 Working Children Identified on Streets of Rasht

Hrana News Agency – The Director General of Welfare in Gilan Province announced the identification of 88 working children active on the streets of Rasht.

According to Hrana News Agency citing Tasnim, the Director General of Welfare in Gilan Province stated that 90 percent of working children in Gilan are non-natives and pointed out: “Currently, 88 working and street children have been identified at the level of Rasht City and files have been created for them.”

According to this report, no official reports have been announced in other cities of Gilan Province. It is possible that temporarily and during certain periods of the year, including holidays and warm seasons, non-native children may be seen on the streets and are not permanently engaged in street work.

The welfare expert elaborated on the main reasons for children turning to work in Gilan, stating: “The main reason for children turning to work is financial poverty and the need of some families for financial support, as well as the culture of work and self-reliance among children in some families; more than 90% of families with working children in Gilan are non-natives.”
