Seven Earthquakes in Persian Gulf Waters; At Least Four Injured on Kish Island

Seven earthquakes occurred on Wednesday in the waters surrounding Kish Island in southern Iran, causing tremors in areas across Hormozgan and Fars provinces as well as Dubai and other Persian Gulf regions.
The United States Geological Survey announced that six earthquakes measuring between 4 and less than 5 on the Richter scale, as well as one earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale, occurred near Kish.
The Islamic Republic’s state news agency, IRNA, says the occurrence of these earthquakes caused panic and concern among people in areas surrounding the epicenter, including Kish Island and southern Fars Province.
According to the report, the earthquakes between 10:25 and 11:52 caused tremors in the Chark and Jonah areas in Hormozgan Province. Officials said assessment teams are busy examining different areas to determine whether they have suffered damage from the earthquake. They say relief teams have also been dispatched.
Iran’s state television also reported that authorities have dispatched rescue teams to the city of Jonah in Hormozgan Province.
The Islamic Republic’s news agency, IRNA, citing the CEO of the Kish Free Zone Organization, reported that four people were injured due to fear and panic while fleeing during the earthquake.
Associated Press also reported that people in the United Arab Emirates felt the earthquake. A similar report has also been released from Qatar.
