Mahsa Amini Dies in Hospital Three Days After Arrest by Morality Police

Radio Farda learned on Friday afternoon, September 25th, that Mahsa Amini died in a hospital three days after being arrested by the morality police and beaten at the Vanak police station.
Mezhgan Amini, Mahsa’s mother, shortly before news of her daughter’s death, told Radio Farda in an interview that doctors were performing dialysis on her daughter.
Ms. Amini added that her daughter’s condition had not changed since Tuesday night when she was admitted to the hospital. In her conversation with Radio Farda, she had called for Mahsa’s recovery and afterward for her rights to be upheld.
Mahsa Amini, 22 years old, who had traveled from Saqqez to Tehran with her family to visit relatives, was arrested by morality police officers.
Accounts from eyewitnesses and social media users indicated that she was beaten in the morality police vehicle and at the police station.
Mahsa Amini’s body arrived at Kasraii Hospital by ambulance two hours after she was transferred to the Vanak police station in Tehran.
While reports indicated brain death due to beating, law enforcement in a statement it released made no reference to the beating and only reported a “sudden” heart condition that occurred during orientation classes at the morality police station.
This was while at least two doctors on Thursday said on social media that given the facial injuries Mahsa Amini had in the hospital and bleeding from her ear, the cause of hospitalization could in no way be a heart problem.
According to her mother, Mahsa Amini was “completely healthy and well” before her arrest.
Mahsa Amini’s uncle had previously told Etemaad Online that “there is no more hope for Mahsa’s survival.”
He further criticized the approach to the mandatory hijab issue in the country, adding: “We have not even received an apology.”
The news of Mahsa Amini’s brain death over mandatory hijab sent shockwaves through the Persian-language virtual space and sparked a wave of outrage.
