Swedish Newspaper: Iran Has Detained a Swedish Tourist

The Swedish newspaper “Aftonbladet” reported on Thursday, May 5, that according to information received by the newspaper, a Swedish man in his thirties who traveled to Iran on a tourist trip with other Swedes has now been detained in Iran.
“Aftonbladet” writes, citing “an informed source,” that this action is related to “warnings about the possible abduction and imprisonment of Swedish citizens in connection with the trial of Hamid Noori in Sweden.”
According to the report, the detained Swedish man was arrested last week when he was supposed to leave Iran after a few days of travel.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed to “Aftonbladet” that a Swedish man in his thirties is being held in detention in Iran, but was unwilling to comment further.
The newspaper writes that the Swedish Embassy in Tehran is now seeking more information about the case and is in contact with Iranian authorities.
Hamid Noori, mentioned in the newspaper’s report, is accused of participating in the mass executions of political prisoners at Gohardasht Prison in Karaj in 1988 and is currently being held in detention in Sweden and is being tried on the same charges.
On May 4, exactly on the last day of Hamid Noori’s trial in Sweden, the ISNA news agency reported that the death sentence of Ahmadreza Jalali, a dual Iranian-Swedish imprisoned researcher, would be carried out within two weeks.
