According to Hrana news agency, citing Kurdistan Pa, on Sunday, the 1st of Khordad 1401, a 12-year-old child in Marivan county committed suicide by hanging and lost his life.

The identity of this child was identified as Mohammad Badrah, son of Abdullah, from Marivan. No information has been obtained regarding the reasons and motives behind this child’s suicide.

According to another report, citing Hamshahri, on Thursday, the 29th of Ordibehesht 1401, a 15-year-old working child in Isfahan committed suicide by hanging and died.

Navid Masaeli, CEO of the non-governmental organization Tolueh Mehr and Special Friendship for Support of Working Children, while announcing this news, said: “We identified Najma around ages 6 or 7 on Isfahan’s Jolfay Street. At that time, Najma was selling flowers and street vending; sometimes she would also play an instrument with her father. Her family are foreign nationals with 8 children and are not in a good financial situation; her siblings still work.”

He continued: “On Thursday afternoon, Najma went to her room after a family quarrel and argument and hanged herself with a piece of cloth. As we followed up, a few months ago one of Najma’s relatives had also passed away and she was constantly pursuing this matter in cyberspace.”

Masaeli, pointing out that working children grow up on the streets from an early age and witness many harms, stated: “Support institutions such as families do not provide much support to working children, and for this reason these children are more at risk, and when they reach adolescence they may suffer serious harms including suicide, just as unfortunately there are knife marks on most of their hands and they take pills and have both successful and unsuccessful suicide attempts.”

The share of Iranian adolescents in annual suicides has been reported at over 7 percent by the Forensic Medicine Organization.
