US Sanctions Iran’s Metal Industries

The US Department of the Treasury sanctioned 17 companies and one individual related to Iran’s metal industries. The new US sanctions against Iran’s metal industries are being imposed two weeks before the end of Donald Trump’s presidency.
The US Department of the Treasury on Tuesday, December 16 (January 5) announced sanctions against 17 companies and one person related to Iran’s metal industries through a statement.
According to a statement published on the official website of the US State Department, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has added twelve Iranian steel producers and other metal manufacturers to its sanctions list.
The new sanctions list includes the names of Iranian companies: Hafez Darya Aria Shipping, Banab Steel Industry Complex, Pasargad Steel Melting Industrial Complex, West Alborz Steel Complex, Zrand Steel Company of Iranians, Khazar Steel Melting Complex, Gilan Steel Complex, Sirjan Steel Company of Iranians, and Esfarayen Industrial Complex.
The US has also added Majid Sajdeh, manager of Hafez Darya Aria shipping company, to its sanctions list.
The new sanctions list also includes the names of three branch offices of a major Iranian metal extraction and mining company based in Germany, China, and Britain.
The US Department of the Treasury announced that a Chinese company specializing in carbon materials production will also be subject to the new sanctions.
In a statement by the US State Department, it was also stated that “metal industries are an important source of revenue for the Iranian regime” and the wealth derived from it is only spent on the welfare of Iran’s “corrupt leaders,” widespread sending of weapons of mass destruction, and “support for foreign terrorist groups.”
These new US sanctions against Iran are being imposed two weeks before the end of Donald Trump’s presidency. These sanctions have been imposed under the title of “human rights violations.”
