Golestan Province Officials: Bread Sales in Supermarkets Prohibited

Mohammad Dehnoui, the coordinator deputy for economic affairs at Golestan Province’s governorate, has announced a “ban on bread sales by supermarkets and retail stores.”
According to ISNA, Dehnoui emphasized that violating stores and supermarkets will be dealt with seriously.
Since last month, “preferential currency exchange” for “industrial and trade flour” has been eliminated, and related flour products have become several times more expensive. Ibrahim Raisi and government officials have repeatedly promised that “bread prices will not increase.”
Simultaneously, the “smart bread subsidy plan” has begun in Zanjan and Qazvin provinces, and some other provinces have also started implementing restrictions on public bread supply despite the liberalization of flour prices.
Government critics say that the 13-fold increase in flour prices and the elimination of preferential currency exchange will affect the prices of many goods—a reality the government says it will control through cash subsidies and rationing cards.
