Complaint by ‘Health Justice Seekers’ Against Khamenei, Rouhani and Members of National Corona Task Force Registered in Court

Mohammad Reza Faqihi and Arash Keikhosravi, Iranian bar association lawyers, filed a complaint against Ayatollah Khamenei, leader of the Islamic Republic, Hassan Rouhani, former president, and members of the National Corona Combat Task Force.
In a 22-page complaint filed by Mohammad Reza Faqihi and Arash Keikhosravi on Sunday, the 8th of Esfand in the judiciary, senior officials of the Islamic Republic were accused during the management of coronavirus in Iran of “causing unintentional homicide of more than one hundred thousand Iranian citizens and abuse of power and failure to implement state laws in the process of combating coronavirus.”
Amtedad News website reported that these two lawyers have asked the prosecutor, while considering the contents of the filed 22-page complaint, to also obtain “expert opinions from independent civil institutions to further clarify the criminal conduct of officials.”
Ayatollah Khamenei, leader of the Islamic Republic, in December 2020 banned imports of American and British vaccines and emphasized domestic vaccine production, but as the crisis escalated, he called coronavirus a “first and urgent” issue for the country and sought vaccine supply by any possible means.
He previously called the coronavirus only a “fabricated disease” and said that “in our opinion, this disaster is not such a great calamity, and there have been greater disasters. They can resolve many problems through prayer and intercession.”
The order to ban purchases of British and American coronavirus vaccines by the leader of the Islamic Republic, delays in purchasing and importing other foreign vaccines, and the failure of the “Execution Headquarters of the Imam’s Order” to mass-produce Iranian coronavirus vaccine, caused the coronavirus vaccination program in the country to face delays and slowness, and many people became victims.
Many analysts at that time stated that it appears the main reason for banning imports of American and British vaccines to Iran was the attempt by the “Execution Headquarters of the Imam’s Order” to produce domestic vaccines and monopolize that market in the country.
This headquarters, which operates under the supervision of the leader of the Islamic Republic, launched extensive propaganda based on widespread production of the Iranian Barkat vaccine, even promising to deliver 50 million doses by September of this year, and effectively prevented widespread vaccine imports into the country.
Simultaneously, various institutions of the Islamic Republic, especially those close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, unveiled several “vaccines” that according to them are to be produced, but there is still no information about their status.
These confusions caused the death toll from coronavirus in the country to increase sharply until finally the leader of the Islamic Republic was forced to say on August 20 of this year that vaccines should be supplied “by any possible means.”
The filing of complaints by Mohammad Reza Faqihi and Arash Keikhosravi against Ayatollah Khamenei and other officials of the Islamic Republic takes place while these two lawyers, along with Mostafa Nili, Mahdi Mahmoudi, Maryam Faraafraz, and Leila Heidari, were arrested on August 23 for refusing to sign a commitment not to file complaints against Ayatollah Khamenei and other officials of the Islamic Republic for mismanagement of coronavirus by security forces.
Zabihollah Khadarjan, spokesman for the judiciary, announced on September 9 that the charges against the detainees were “disruption of order” and some crimes against national security.
They were accused of “forming a group opposed to the system with the goal of undermining security” as well as “propaganda activity against the system,” and they are currently free on bail. Mahdi Mahmoudi, a civil activist, however, continues to be in prison.
