Over 2,600 Child Laborers Identified in Tehran Last Year

The head of the Social Affairs Deputy of Welfare in Tehran Province announced the identification of 2,630 child laborers across the province during the past year. According to him, more than 80 percent of these children are foreign nationals.
According to Hrana news agency, citing the Young Journalists Club, the head of the Social Affairs Deputy of Welfare in Tehran Province announced the identification of 2,630 child laborers across the province during the past year.
The head of the Social Affairs Deputy of Welfare in Tehran Province stated: “In the year 1400, 2,630 working and street children were identified and taken in across Tehran Province. Of this number, 457 children were placed in care centers run by the housing organization, and 2,173 children received support, educational, and rehabilitation services at daily centers aimed at eliminating child labor.”
Fatemeh Arzanian added: “Of the total identified and admitted working children, 28 percent are girls and 72 percent are boys.”
According to the head of the Social Affairs Deputy of Welfare in Tehran Province, of the identified and admitted children, more than 80 percent are foreign nationals and less than 20 percent are Iranian. In most cases, foreign national children lack identity documents.
Earlier, the CEO of the Welfare, Services and Social Participation Organization of Tehran Municipality announced that 2,500 child laborers had been covered by Tehran Municipality schools.
