Over 100 villages in Kerman face ‘serious flood danger’; roads to 339 villages cut off

Heavy rainfall in Kerman Province has exposed residents of dozens of villages in the province to flood-related hazards.
Majid Saeedi, director general of crisis management at the Kerman governorate, told Mehr News Agency that 106 villages in the province face “serious flood danger.” According to the report released Wednesday morning, January 19th, roads to 339 villages have also been cut off.
He described conditions in the southern regions of the province, particularly Rudbar Jonubi, Qaleh Ganj, Minujan, and Rigan, as “critical.” The director general of crisis management at the Kerman governorate stated that evacuation orders have been issued for 6 villages and for homes located near riverbanks.
Meanwhile, the Fars News Agency reported, citing the CEO of the Kerman Red Crescent Society, that the bodies of two children, aged 8 and 5, have been found. According to the news agency, they had fallen into a river in Nasirabad village in the Chah Malik area of Rigan district while playing.
Mehr News Agency had previously reported, without providing precise details, the deaths of four people in the Kerman floods.
The news agency also reported that as water levels in the Zayanderud River rose sharply, rescue teams and firefighters conducted mobile patrols throughout Zayanderud city and urged residents to evacuate the city and seek refuge in safe, elevated villages.
The news agency reported dozens of homes subsiding in areas of Kerman.
