Increased Judicial Pressure on Family of Farzad Ansarifar, Victim of November 2019 Crackdown on Protests in Behbahan

A source close to the family of Farzad Ansarifar, a victim of the November 2019 crackdown on protests in Behbahan, told the Persian Service of Voice of America on Monday, February 8, that coinciding with the second round of the November 2019 People’s Tribunal in London, judicial authorities have opened three separate cases against Farzaneh Ansarifar while pressuring the Ansarifar family, with a ruling in one of these cases to be issued within the coming days.

According to this report, a court hearing was held last Wednesday for one of Farzaneh Ansarifar’s (sister of Farzad Ansarifar) cases, which she was unable to attend due to illness. However, this informed source quoted Ms. Ansarifar’s defense lawyer as saying that a ruling in one of the cases has been issued and will be delivered.

This informed source, emphasizing that judicial authorities are “putting a lot of pressure” on the Ansarifar family, stated: “They have gone after everyone who has had contact with them and taken them [for interrogation and intimidation].”

According to this report, three different summonses have been sent to Farzaneh Ansarifar over the past month.

According to the informed source, in addition to opening three cases against Farzaneh Ansarifar, warnings have also been sent to her father, brother, and sister to appear in court (Revolutionary Court) in Behbahan within five days, but they have not complied.

The source close to the Ansarifar family, emphasizing that in addition to killing Farzad, they had previously burned his sister’s house and car and arrested two of his uncles, said: “Now, with increased pressure on this family, in addition to opening three cases against Farzaneh Ansarifar, by sending warnings they have also summoned her father, brother, and sister.”

Amin Ansarifar, Farzad Ansarifar’s father, was one of those who appeared online and testified in the first round of the November 2019 People’s Tribunal in London.
