Masih Alinejad Receives Nobel Peace Prize Nomination: Iranian Women Face Systematic and Brutal Oppression and Discrimination

Masih Alinejad, a journalist and women’s activist opposed to mandatory hijab, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by a Norwegian legislator.

Ms. Alinejad, who is a presenter and interpreter for the Voice of America’s Tablet program, responded to the action of Erlend Wiborg, a member of the Norwegian Parliament from the Progress Party, who nominated her for the Nobel Peace Prize nomination, saying: “It is important that the struggle of Iranian women against gender apartheid be recognized.”

Continuing, and referring to the vital importance of strengthening global struggles against “terrorist governments” with the aim of achieving a world filled with peace, she said: “Iranian women face systematic and brutal oppression and discrimination. If the Iranian people’s struggle for human rights values is recognized, it will influence the regime and the entire world, and will contribute to global peace.”

Erlend Wiborg, who nominated Ms. Alinejad for the Nobel Peace Prize nomination, while deeming this Iranian female journalist’s qualifications compatible with Alfred Nobel’s wish for respect for humanity and human freedom, said that Masih’s struggles in this regard are “fearless.”

Masih Alinejad has been one of the prominent activists against mandatory hijab in recent years.

Last summer, she was the target of a failed kidnapping attempt by Islamic Republic operatives; an action that was foiled by U.S. security forces.

On December 3rd, a bipartisan bill titled “Harassment of Masih Alinejad and Unlawful Targeting” was introduced by Senator Ben Cardin and Senator Pat Toomey, according to which the actions of operatives and individuals from Iran’s Islamic Republic system for kidnapping, harassment and persecution of opponents and dissidents will face consequences including sanctions.
