Man Threw Acid on Three Women in Shahr-e Ray

Iranian media reported an acid attack on three women on the morning of Tuesday, December 28, in a park in Shahr-e Ray, Tehran Province, with the attacker fleeing the scene.

While the Mehr news agency quoted Mehdi Serpanah, the social deputy of the police force in western Tehran Province, stating that the attack was carried out by “a young man wearing a mask and a long coat” on women who had come to the local park for morning exercise, the Entekhaab newspaper quoted the same official as saying the acid attack was “carried out by a woman wearing a mask.”

According to these reports, the acid attacker approached the women from behind and emptied the contents of a bottle on them, and moments later, the three women alerted other people to the incident with their screams.

According to the social deputy of the police in western Tehran Province, “one of the women suffered burns on the back of her foot and hand, and two others only had their clothes burned.”

Mehdi Serpanah, the social deputy of the police in western Tehran, also claimed that the identity of the acid attacker had been determined and that he “has psychological problems.” However, this police official did not provide an explanation for why he has not been arrested so far.

In recent years, including in Isfahan Province, there have been several cases of violent attacks, including acid attacks from motorcycles against women and girls deemed “improperly veiled,” with the fate of most of these cases remaining unknown.
