Human Rights Campaign Launched in Canada to Designate Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as ‘Terrorist Entity’

Human rights activists in Canada have announced the launch of a campaign to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a “terrorist entity.”

In the first step of this campaign, the group of human rights activists, through the “Mehr Human Rights Center,” have installed two billboards commemorating victims of the November 2019 protests and the downing of the Ukrainian aircraft on two streets in Toronto.

The billboards, which were installed on Saturday, June 5th, feature images of Pooya Bakhtiari, who was killed in Mehr Shahr, Karaj during the November 2019 protests after being shot in the head, as well as Rastin Moghadam and Shakiba Fagahi, a mother and son who were among 176 people killed when the IRGC fired missiles at a Ukrainian aircraft.

Human rights activists involved in installing these billboards announced in tweets they published that the goal of this effort is to advance a “justice movement” against Iranian government officials and to bring the voices of the victims to international bodies.

The Mehr Human Rights Center has also called on people to advance this campaign by sending letters to the Canadian Parliament and government, and submitting requests to place the IRGC on the list of “terrorist groups.”
