Over 1,000 Alternative Sentences to Imprisonment Issued in Eight Months in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari

The Chief Justice of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province announced the issuance of more than 1,390 alternative sentences to imprisonment during the first eight months of the current year.

According to Hrana news agency, citing Mizan, a responsible official reported the issuance of more than 1,390 alternative imprisonment sentence rulings during the first eight months of the current year.

The Chief Justice of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province stated: “More than 1,390 alternative imprisonment sentences have been issued in line with reducing the criminal population of prisons, with a focus on implementing 8 suspended sentence suspensions, deferred judgment orders (simple), deferred judgment orders (supervisory), semi-open system under electronic monitoring systems, sentence revocation and issuance of conviction rulings, probation period, sentence confirmation with penalty reduction, and daily fines by the judicial courts of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province during the first eight months of the current year.”

Bahramian, stating that the issuance of alternative sentences to imprisonment brings about a transformation of the judicial system, emphasized: “The issued rulings include mandatory free public services, probation period, deprivation of social rights, and monitoring under electronic systems.”

It should be noted that with the approval of the new Islamic Penal Code, Chapter Nine of it refers to alternative sentences.

Based on this law, judges can use alternative sentences to imprisonment considering the conditions of the accused and having certain prerequisites; for example, one of the conditions for implementing this law is the consent of the convicted person.
