Cyberattack on Iranian Government and Private Organization Websites

Iranian authorities announced a cyberattack by a hacker group on over 100 websites of government and private organizations in the country. The hacker group “From Uprising to Overthrow” claimed responsibility for attacking the systems of Iran’s Ministry of Agricultural Jihad.
Meysam Ghessoudi Goodarzi, deputy head of the Information Technology Organization of Iran (ITO), announced on Sunday, April 24, during the 21 o’clock news program of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, a widespread cyber attack on Iran’s infrastructure.
Regarding the details of this attack that occurred in recent days, he said: “The attack was designed using a security vulnerability in one of the widely-used software programs of the country’s organizations, through which attackers were able to gain initial access to over 100 websites of government and private organizations.”
According to Goodarzi, the attack has been neutralized and no damage has been inflicted on any of the country’s infrastructure.
He stated: “The attackers were only able to extract system information from the websites, and none of the original data of the attacked websites was compromised.”
Meanwhile, a group called “From Uprising to Overthrow” announced on their Twitter page that they have hacked approximately 50 domains of the Islamic Republic’s Ministry of Agricultural Jihad systems.
The hacker group placed an image of Massoud Rajavi, leader of the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization, Maryam Rajavi, president of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, and an image of Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, with red crosses on the homepage of the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad website.
Meysam Ghessoudi Goodarzi named the source of these attacks as the Netherlands, the United States, and Britain, and said that “complementary legal and judicial measures regarding this incident are being pursued and implemented.”
According to him, this action “was designed like a time bomb to be able to attack and overshadow over 100 services in the country at a specific time in order to disrupt the nation.”
