IRGC Naval Force Unveils New Missile City

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Naval Force unveiled a new missile city equipped with cruise and ballistic missiles and numerous systems on the occasion of “Guardian Day.” This is the sixth addition of “combat equipment” to the IRGC Naval Forces in the current year.

According to “Sepah News,” the equipment in this city was produced by the Ministry of Defense, knowledge-based companies, and the Jihad for Self-Sufficiency organization.

The Farsnews Agency reported on the unveiling ceremony of a new IRGC missile city. The ceremony, held on Saturday, March 16, was attended by the Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC, the Commander of the IRGC Naval Force, and several commanders and senior officials of the Armed Forces.

Quoting “Sepah News,” Farsnews reported that numerous systems and cruise and ballistic missiles with various ranges were displayed in this city. The agency stated that new operational capabilities and features such as “precise firing from depths and non-active defense positions, mine-laying at various ranges, 360-degree firing, firing while moving, capability to counter electronic warfare, and increased range and destructive power” have been added to the IRGC Naval Force’s combat organization.

This is the sixth addition of combat equipment to the IRGC Naval Forces in the year 1399 (2020-2021). According to Farsnews, missile systems with the capability to change targets after launch were also unveiled at the ceremony.

The Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Support, knowledge-based companies, IRGC research departments, and the IRGC Naval Force’s Jihad for Self-Sufficiency organization, as well as the agencies and personnel involved in designing and manufacturing these equipment, were introduced.

In a three-minute video released from the opening of this city titled “Display of the Power of the Green-Uniformed IRGC Naval Force,” multiple equipment and systems are visible in tunnels and open spaces with posters of Qasem Soleimani, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, and other IRGC technical and operational personnel.

Hossein Salami, Commander of the IRGC, said at the ceremony: “What you are witnessing is a small part of the great missile capability of the IRGC Naval Force, and we are facing enormous developments in naval combat capabilities.”

Alirez Tangsiri, Commander of the IRGC Naval Force, had announced eight months earlier that the IRGC had created “floating missile-launching cities” on Iran’s southern coasts and would display them when necessary.

The new equipment of the IRGC Naval Force was unveiled as tensions between Iran and Israel in regional waters have escalated. The Wall Street Journal reported several days ago, citing American and regional officials, that Israel has attacked at least 12 Iranian or Iran-affiliated oil tankers from late 2019 to the present. Israel has also accused the Islamic Republic of being behind the attack on the cargo ship MV Helios Ray in the Gulf of Oman. In that attack, the Israeli vessel sustained damage at two points, but none of its 28 crew members were injured.

In the latest incident, the Iranian ship “Shahrekord” was attacked in Mediterranean waters. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that the evidence indicates Israel’s involvement in the attack.
