Mohammad Davari Transferred to Prison to Serve his Sentence

Mohammad Davari, a civil activist, was arrested on Wednesday, December 17th after appearing at the enforcement unit of the General and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Shiraz and transferred to Shiraz Central Prison to serve his sentence. Mr. Davari was previously sentenced to 8 years and 6 months imprisonment by the Shiraz Revolutionary Court. This sentence was reduced to 3 years and 9 months imprisonment in the appellate stage. Of this amount, 2 years and 9 months of imprisonment is enforceable as the severest punishment.
According to Hrana news agency, the news organ of the Iranian Human Rights Activists Network, on Wednesday, December 17th, 2020, Mohammad Davari, a civil activist, was arrested after appearing at the enforcement unit of the General and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Shiraz and transferred to Shiraz Central Prison to serve his sentence.
According to a source close to Mr. Davari, he will be held for one month at Shiraz Central Prison and after the completion of the quarantine period, he will be transferred to Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz.
Mohammad Davari was previously arrested on October 1st, 2019 by Ministry of Intelligence officers in Shiraz and transferred to the Intelligence Office of Shiraz (Plate 100). After his arrest, his personal residence was also searched by Ministry of Intelligence officers and his personal belongings, books, and manuscripts were confiscated.
After several interrogation sessions at this security agency’s detention facility, Mr. Davari was transferred to Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz on January 11th, 2020. He was finally released from prison on April 20th, 2020 on a temporary basis pending the completion of legal proceedings by posting bail of 1 billion and 500 million tomans.
Mohammad Davari was sentenced in April of this year at the initial stage by Branch 1 of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Seyyed Mahmoud Sadati, to 7 years and 6 months imprisonment (due to recidivism, in addition to double severity) for the charge of “membership in an opposition group against the system” and to one year imprisonment for the charge of “propaganda activity against the system,” and in total to 8 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
In September of this year, this sentence was reduced to 3 years and 9 months of imprisonment by Branch 1 of the Appeals Court of Fars Province. Based on Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the severest punishment of 2 years and 9 months of imprisonment for the charge of “membership in an opposition group against the system” is enforceable for him.
Mohammad Davari, born in 1373 in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Yasuj Azad University and is a political science student at Golestan University of Shiraz.
This civil activist has a previous record of arrest and conviction due to peaceful civil activities. These cases include Mr. Davari’s arrest during the December 2017 protests and before that during the death of Hashemi Rafsanjani for lowering his banner from the city of Yasuj.
