Corona in Iran; Mutated English Virus Takes Lead in Qazvin

The head of public relations at the Ministry of Health says 17 people in Iran have been infected with the mutated virus, 7 of whom are in Qazvin. The ministry’s spokesperson also reported 89 deaths in the past 24 hours and considered the danger of a fourth wave of corona serious.

Kianush Jahanpour, head of the Information and Public Relations Center of Iran’s Ministry of Health, says 17 people have been definitively infected with the mutated corona virus, 7 of whom are in Qazvin Province. He announced that on this basis, special regulations will be implemented in Qazvin to identify and control the disease.

Sima Sadat Lari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, also urged people to avoid unnecessary travel to prevent a fourth wave of corona and especially to prevent the spread of the mutated English virus.

Lari also expressed concern about the upward trend of the disease among young people in recent weeks and said: “An increase in disease in lower age groups is a warning for an increase in disease among the elderly.”

She called cases of infection and hospitalization in Khuzestan “very concerning” and reported a gradual upward slope in daily hospitalizations of patients in Ilam, Kohgiluyeh and Boyerahmad, Bushehr, Isfahan, Fars, and Semnan.

One day earlier, Saeed Namaki, Iran’s Minister of Health, warned of an approaching “difficult month of Esfand” and said: “I do not believe that there are only these few cases of mutated virus in Qazvin. There must be joint meetings between Zanjan, Qazvin, Alborz, and Tehran provinces, and this entire region must be under continuous supervision, and the first peak of the disease, wherever it appears, must be immediately extinguished.”

The ministry’s spokesperson, in the latest statistics, reported the number of corona deaths in the past 24 hours as 89 people. Accordingly, the official figure for COVID-19 deaths in Iran reached 59,117 people.

According to the Ministry of Health announcement, 9 cities in Iran are in red status, including Abadan, Ahvaz, Bandar Mahshahr, Dezful, Dasht Azadegan, Shadegan, Shushtar, Karun, and Hoveizeh. 39 cities are in orange status, 228 cities in yellow status, and 172 cities in blue status.
