English Coronavirus Variant Reaches Hormozgan, Alborz, and Gilan

Health officials in Gilan and Hormozgan provinces have announced that patients infected with the mutated coronavirus strain, known as the English coronavirus variant, have been identified in several cities in these two provinces.
According to Fatema Norouzian, spokesperson for Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences, two residents of Qeshm and Bandar Lengeh who traveled from the UAE to Iran have been infected with the English coronavirus variant.
Arslan Salari, head of Gilan University of Medical Sciences, also reported that a 70-year-old elderly woman in Manjil died due to infection with the mutated coronavirus strain.
He stated that a person who traveled from Alborz province to Gilan was responsible for transmitting the mutated virus.
Simultaneously, Iraj Harirchi, Deputy Minister of Health, referring to the critical situation in Khuzestan province, said that the number of people visiting health centers in the province has increased from 200 per day to 3,500 per day.
In recent days, the outbreak of the English coronavirus variant in the province has caused the status of 11 cities in Khuzestan to turn red again, and “the number of infected cases aged 6 to 14 has doubled.”
