Coronavirus Claims 480 More Lives in Iran, Over 13,000 New Cases Reported

The coronavirus has claimed 480 more lives in Iran over the past 24 hours. The condition of 5,712 additional patients is also reported as critical. 27 provinces remain in the red alert status for coronavirus.

On Wednesday, November 18, Iran’s Health Ministry spokesperson announced that with these 480 deaths, the official death toll from coronavirus in Iran has reached 42,941.

According to Sima Lari, during the same period, 13,421 new cases of COVID-19 were identified in Iran, of which 2,837 were hospitalized.

With the newly identified patients included, she announced the official number of coronavirus cases in Iran at 801,894.

According to Iran’s Health Ministry spokesperson, 5,712 COVID-19 patients are currently under care in critical condition.

Despite doubts from independent sources regarding the accuracy of government statistics, Iranian health ministry officials continue to announce daily coronavirus infection and death figures.

Sima Lari also said on Wednesday: “Approximately 50 percent of COVID-19 patients admitted to ICU die, and out of every 10,000 infected people, more than four contract the disease again.”

The coronavirus outbreak situation in Iran has become so critical in recent days that starting Saturday, December 1, stricter restrictions will be imposed to contain the virus, including bans on inter-city travel, closure of non-essential businesses in red and orange alert cities, and a maximum of one-third workforce presence in government offices.

Currently, the provinces of Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, East Azerbaijan, South Khorasan, Semnan, Qazvin, Lorestan, Ardabil, Khuzestan, Kermanshah, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Gilan, Bushehr, Zanjan, Ilam, Razavi Khorasan, Mazandaran, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Alborz, West Azerbaijan, Central, Kerman, North Khorasan, Hamadan, Yazd, and Kurdistan are in red alert status.

Hormozgan, Fars, Golestan, and Sistan and Baluchestan provinces are in orange and yellow alert status.
