A Porter Killed in Shooting by Military Forces in Sardasht

On Wednesday, the 15th of Bahman, following a direct fire by military forces in the border areas of Sardasht city, a porter lost his life.

According to a report by Hrana News Agency, citing Kordpa, on Wednesday, the 15th of Bahman 1399, a porter was killed as a result of direct fire by military forces.

His identity has been identified as Khaled Ahmadpour, married, from the village of Vordeh in Sardasht city.

Portering is a deceptive and arduous occupation that people in border areas resort to due to lack of employment opportunities, and annually dozens are killed or injured in confrontation with natural hazards or as a result of fire by border guard forces.

In a section of the annual report on the status of human rights in Iran; specifically for the year 2020, it addressed citizens who have been killed or injured by military organizations.
Beyond material damages, killing of pack animals and incidents including frostbite and avalanche, the report documented the killing of 36 porters (border smugglers) and the injury of 109 of them by border guard and law enforcement forces.
It should be noted that 9 other porters were also affected by climatic and geographical conditions such as frostbite and falls from heights, of which 4 porters were injured and 5 porters died.
